A simple combination of four ingredients never tasted so good: puff pastry, bacon, maple syrup, and brown sugar come together in the recipe below to make a sweet-and-savory flatbread you won’t be able to resist.
The buttery puff pastry is the perfect base for crisp bacon and sweet maple; just be sure to prick it well so that it bakes evenly. Just as delicious hot as cold, this flatbread is the perfect hors d’oeuvre or Game Day party snack.
If you’d like a bit more savory in this mix, adding crumbled goat cheese or blue cheese is a great way to change things up!
Ingredients
1 pound bacon
1 sheet puff pastry
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
Preparation
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lay the bacon out on a rack, and place on top of an aluminum-lined baking sheet. Bake the bacon for 20 minutes, until crispy.
2. Remove the bacon from the oven and set aside to cool.
3. Roll out the puff pastry, and prick all over with a fork to keep it from rising too much as it bakes. Drizzle with half the maple syrup and scatter with half the brown sugar.
4. Crush the bacon into bits, and sprinkle over the top. Drizzle with the remaining maple syrup, and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar.
5. Bake until golden brown, 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before cutting into bite-sized triangles with a pizza cutter.
