Tangy Lemon Cream Cheese Brownies

1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1 lemon
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup lemon juice


Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, mix together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and lemon juice until smooth.
Pour the majority of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, reserving about 1/2 cup.

Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture on top of the brownie batter in the pan.
Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter on top of the cream cheese mixture.
Use a knife or spatula to swirl the layers together, creating a marbled effect.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
